What exactly is a facial?

I think facial is an illusive treatment. Unlike having lash and brow treatment or manicure and pedicure. A bad facial or one that done without any noticeable difference or lack of explanations, will prevent you to have another one. A good facialist is hard to find.

So here is how I perform a basic 10 steps facial, with explanation to each steps. Thanks for reading.

Step 1. First Cleanse

This is a superficial cleanse, The aim to to remove my client's makeup and surface grime, so I can perform the next task.

Step 2. Skin Analysis

I will analyse my client's skin type and find out about their skin concerns. I can then work out the best treatments for them.

Step 3. Second Cleanse

After the skin analysis, I can move on to using more skin specific cleanser for my client. This will be a more thorough cleanse.

Step 4. Exfoliate

This will remove the dead skin on my client's skin. This will help the skin to absorb any skin care products that I will use in the future steps.

Step 5. Steam

This relaxing step is to open pores and cleanse the skin, allowing deep cleaning of impurities and oil. This promote circulation and releasing trapped sebum.

Step 6. Facial and shoulders massage

This is the most important part of the whole facial. It has multiple benefits.

- Anti ageing and help to reduce wrinkles

- Help to release sinus pressure

- Help to achieve glowing skin

- Increase circulation and help to reduce Acne

- Help to manage scar tissues

- Aid lymphatic drainage ( removing toxin from within)

- Reduce puffiness

- Up lift the firmness on the face

- Release pressure and tension

Step 7. Mask

Whether it will be a setting or non setting mask, this will be decide when the skin analysis was performed. Each mask has different benefits. I always combine different mask on different area of my client's face as each area is different.

Step 8. Serum, Tone and Moisturise

The products that I will use here will be targeted at my client's skin type. Again, everyone skin is completely different.

Step 9. SPF

I apply SPF before my client leave my salon. It is very important that we protect ourselves from the harmful UV lights, See this blog about sun cream.

Step 10. Aftercare Advice

This is just as important as the 1st step. I wanted to make sure my clients leave my salon armed with the knowledge and facts to help them to carry on with their routine. As a general, no makeup, steam room and sauna for 24 hours. No swimming for 24 hours and avoid heat. I will also explain why they may experience "break out" 24 hours after. It is completely normal and it is call skin purging.

I hope this has clear some uncertainty regarding getting yourself a facial in the future. You can take a look at the standard treatments I have on offer at InnerGlow.
