Whenever you look at a skin care product, they always have their recommended skin type written on it. So, if you do not know it, you are most likely end up going for the "suitable for all skin type" and hope for the best. You got home, tried the product and guess what? You either ended up having a breakout or dried patches or worst still, allergic reaction.
There are simple ways to determine your skin types.
As you probably know, there are 4 main type of skin. Normal, Dry, Combination and Oily. You might be amazed to find that having "normal" skin is very rare. The most common skin type is actually combination.
Normal skin type
Moisture content, sebum production, and other factors that affect the health of your skin are all within normal ranges. Normal skin is less likely to suffer from skin conditions and appears clear, radiant, and healthy. You are extremely lucky to have this type of skin!
Dry skin type
Not to be confused with sensitive skin. Both dry and sensitive skin are dry, flaky, itchy and rough. However, sensitive skin will also suffer from rashes, breakout and sunburn very easily. It is more common in female or those with darker skin, Both produce less sebum (oil). The pores of dry skin will be tight.
Oily skin type
This is at the opposite spectrum of a dry skin type. Oily skin type has an over active sebum secretion. It is often genetic. Asian and oriental suffer the most.
The most noticeable symptom is enlarged pores or clogged pores. It is often accompanied with white or black heads. Acne is also very common with this skin type.
Combination skin type
Combination skin type is the most common skin type of all. This has an oily T Zone (along forehead, nose and chin area) and dryer cheeks. The intensity of the oiliness and dryness varied from person to person. Breakout could occurs within the T Zone area.
